ACCOMMODATION

Space, convenience, and quiet luxury

Built into sixty acres of forest we spent a decade bringing back to life.
Each cottage is set apart in the trees above the Karatu highlands, finished in local art and stone, and built for a slower kind of arrival. King and queen beds sit under full-length mosquito nets, a wood fireplace takes the chill off the highland evenings, and a private deck opens straight onto the forest canopy.

ROOMS

Our Cottages

Each of our spacious cottages is tastefully appointed with local art, a king or queen bed, and a full-sized mosquito net. Guests enjoy a fireplace, a private deck with a chaise lounge and coffee table overlooking the lush forest, a dressing room with a writing desk and luggage rack, and a wardrobe with a safe. His-and-hers wash basins, a water closet, and a rain shower complete each cottage, luxury you can afford in our little paradise.

COTTAGES

Twin Cottages

The cottage most families reach for first. Two beds sit under the same fireplace and full-length mosquito netting as every other room, with space for up to two children under 12 alongside two adults, enough separation that parents and kids each get their own corner without booking two rooms. The deck still looks straight into the forest, and there’s a writing desk and wardrobe safe tucked into the dressing area for whoever’s doing the packing.

Double Cottages

Our most-booked room, and the one most guests picture when they imagine The Retreat: a king bed, a fireplace that’s usually already lit by the time you arrive back from the crater, and a deck for two with a coffee table between the chaise lounges. It’s fitted exactly like the Single Cottage, just booked for a pair — ideal for couples moving through on safari who want privacy without needing extra square footage.

Interconnected Cottages

Two cottages joined by a connecting door, built for the groups that don’t fit neatly into a single room, multi-generational families, two couples travelling together who still want a shared space to gather in the evenings, or friends who’d rather be next door than down the path. Each side keeps its own king bed, fireplace, dressing area and en-suite bathroom, so nobody’s sharing a bathroom queue in the morning, but the connecting door means the kids can be a room away rather than a walk through the forest away. Both sides open onto their own private deck, so even joined, neither room feels like the smaller half.

2-Bedroom Cottages

The Retreat at Ngorongoro is a nature-inspired paradise set on over 60 acres of land overlooking the Ngorongoro Forest. The lodge was developed with a great deal of passion for nature. Over 40,000 indigenous trees were planted to rejuvenate the land to its original green and lush history. We hope each and every guest staying at The Retreat at Ngorongoro will find peace, tranquility and a connection to nature. Karibu Nyumbani.
